As one of the most important industry, automobile manufactory requires a new technique always more urgently. As one of the necessary daily tools, the usable and cool applications are always welcome by the users. So according to the description, the requirement of VR applications to automobile area is unimaginable large.

But so far as I know, this application is not developed widely. One of the most popular applications of virtual reality to automobile industry is the car simulator. Like the image above. With the simulated car model, multi-canvas and projectors, of course the animation supports are also significant. Usually for the contact-analog display the tracking system is also required. This is truly used for the applications related to the car driving or automobile function test, but the feeling is still too virtual. Not so intuitive as a real part of car, shortly to say not directly applied to the real car.
Another application is as a tutorial for the car repair or the industry manufacture. With the Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality support, the complicated process is simplified and the learning is more intuitive. I have seen the video from BMW to teach person how to replace the car components with augmented reality tech.
While today from Youtube I have found another interesting video about the vision-based Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) from the Mobileye company. This system is truly useful for the drivers to increase the driving safety. But I'm afraid this tech is not applied with VR yet. The video part is just implemented from a monitor-view. But if it can be realized as a VR view, that is to say project the dynamic image onto the windshield and superimposed with the view outside, then the function can be more powerful. Perhaps the GPS or some other multimedia functions can also be implemented in this way, the advantage is obvious, the driver doesn't have to look away from the driving view scene, and logically safer!
